Sydney Learning Adventures operates programs in conjunction with a number of government and community organisations.

The Rocks Discovery Museum

The Rocks Discovery Museum draws on Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority's unique historical collection and valuable staff insight to tell the story of The Rocks from pre-European contact through to the present. It shows the important role the area has played in shaping Sydney as we know it today.

Featuring four permanent exhibitions, in addition to a research area, The Rocks Discovery Museum embraces innovative design and high levels of interactivity. Entry is free.

Sydney Learning Adventures offers history and HSIE excursions incorporating The Rocks Discovery Museum.

Tribal Warrior Association
Partner programs

  • Bangaboui: Aboriginal cultural harbour cruise

The Tribal Warrior is a non-profit, community organisation initiated and directed by Aboriginal people and Aboriginal Elders. The Association exists to empower disadvantaged Aboriginal and non-indigenous people - encouraging them to become self-sufficient by providing specialised training programs leading to employment opportunities in the maritime industries.

As a non-profit organisation, the Tribal Warrior Association relies on the community for both financial and practical support.
The Aboriginal cultural harbour cruise was developed by the Tribal Warrior Association in conjunction with Sydney Learning Adventures.

Chinese Garden of Friendship
Partner programs

  • Red and gold: making a multicultural Australia

Initiated by the local Chinese community to share its rich cultural heritage and celebrate Australia's 1988 bicentenary, the Chinese Garden is the result of a close bond of friendship and cooperation between the sister cities of Sydney and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, China.

The Chinese Garden of Friendship is located in Darling Harbour and is open daily from 9.30 am to 5 pm excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Sydney Learning Adventures offers a primary school program 'Chinese Whispers' and the secondary school program 'Red and Gold' which incorporates the Chinese Garden of Friendship.

Sydney Harbour YHA

Sydney Harbour YHA is located on the site of some of Sydney's earliest colonial archaeology in The Rocks.

The Big Dig Education Centre is operated by Sydney Harbour YHA and provides a first class educational facility for both the domestic and international education market. Sydney Learning Adventures uses the centre as a presentation space for the five programs mentioned above.

Sydney Observatory
Partner programs

  • Secondary - The Rocks Dreaming

Sydney Observatory is located on Observatory Hill and is part of the Powerhouse Museum. The Observatory is opened daily from 10 am to 5 pm for school excursions.

 

Sydney Learning Adventures and Sydney Observatory offer a discount of $1 per student when booking a combination of The Rocks Dreaming with the lndigenous astronomy program for secondary schools.  The discount will only apply when the Sydney Learning Adventures and Sydney Observatory Programs are booked for the same day.

Margret Campbell 
Partner program

  • The Rocks Dreaming

Both of Margret's biological parents are Aboriginal from the Dunghutti People (South West Rocks - Kempsey, NSW) and the Yuin People (Nowra - Wallaga Lake, NSW).

 

Margret is accepted as a Gurrii Saltwater woman throughout NSW and grew up in a strong Gurii-Koori kin-based family system.

 

Margret was a founding member of the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) where she holds a life membership.

 

She trained as a teacher and has classroom experience from pre-school infants to adult level at TAFE and Aboriginal community college. Margret is also a Certified Workplace Trainer level 4.

 

In 1993, she became the first accredited Aboriginal tour operator in Sydney.    

Margret Campbell has shared and passed on her knowledge to Aboriginal guides from Sydney Learning Adventures who offer The Rocks Dreaming program which focuses on Aboriginal people's connection to, interaction with, and use of the natural environment and resources.

Imax Theatre
Partner program - can be partnered with all SLA programs

The world's largest Imax Theatre is located at Darling Harbour. Combine a screening of Sydney: Story of a City at IMAX with a guided tour of The Rocks or Darling Harbour with Sydney Learning Adventures.

A variety of tour programs are available at The Rocks including Children Stepping Back in Time, Detectives With a Difference  and Upstairs Downstairs at Merchant's House, and at Darling Harbour including Chinese Whispers and Red and Gold.

The Imax Theatre offers a discounted rate of $9.50 per student and Sydney Learning Adventures offers a discounted rate of $11 per student for programs in The Rocks and $14.00 per student for Darling Harbour programs if visiting both Imax and Sydney Learning Adventures on the same day.

Migration Heritage Centre
Partner program

  • Red and Gold: making a multicultural Australia

The Migration Heritage Centre identifies, records, preserves and interprets the history of migration in New South Wales from 1788 to the present day. It works in partnership with government, community, educational and cultural organisations to give new perspectives on Australian history to validate the experiences of migrants, challenge misconceptions and ensure a more representative heritage is preserved for future generations.
