Our sustainable future

With a clear vision for its precincts, the Authority has identified the need for sustainability, social responsibility and economic viability at the very core of its place management of Darling Harbour and The Rocks.

Darling Harbour and The Rocks became the first precincts in NSW to target eco-footprint reductions which aim to reduce the carbon emissions of these precincts by 80 per cent from 2000 levels by 2020.

By 2020, the Authority aims to:

  • reduce potable water consumption by 80 per cent compared to 2000 levels
  • recycle or compost 80 per cent of all waste generated in its precincts
  • procure 80 per cent of all products from recycled or sustainable sources.

Since 2007, the Authority has implemented a number of initiatives to reduce energy consumption in managed buildings and the public domain.

The Authority continues to implement strategies to achieve its targets in corporate and operational areas, including waste management, event management, procurement and asset management.
